280 shows in 10 days, all in one of the most eclectic districts in Indianapolis.
This provocative series of entertainment can be none other than the IndyFringe Festival in the heart of the Mass Ave Cultural District!
Everything from musicals to magic to monstrous amounts of comedy, the IndyFringe Festival is a place where you not only witness amazing performances, but you become a part of them as well. Performers are audience members and vice versa. Nobody is a stranger in these parts and everybody knows your name. (Ok. Not really. But who doesn’t love a Cheers reference?) I did, however, hear from a regular attendee that you could go to any Fringe Festival in the country and be guaranteed to make new friends. Sounds like a pretty sweet arrangement to me.
So last year I embarked on my first experience at this rather provocative and addictive ensemble of performances. I had heard so many great things about it and have always regretted (just a bit) giving up on my dreams to be a famous actress. So this was the least I could do to get my fill of a long, lost dream. (Sorry Theatre Degree, it was me, not you.)
Walking down the streets of Mass Ave on any day can be quite the experience, but doing so on such a festive occasion? Magnificent. Have a need for people watching? This is your spot, my friend. I guarantee that you will find every type of gawk-worthy person here. The diversity was what impressed me the most.
Need me to break it down for you, homeslice? A 10-day span of unique and original acts, a cultural hodge-podge of travelers from all over the world and an excuse to hang with your favorite pals in an environment where anything goes. Not to mention 100% of the proceeds go to the performers. A stellar party AND supporting a worthy cause? This is a no-brainer, folks.
Head to the IndyFringe Festival from August 20-29 and hang loose, make a new friend and have fun! See you there!
