There’s so much going on in Indy I don’t even know where to begin!
For starters, you MUST see this new documentary at the Keystone Art Cinema called “Waiting for ‘Superman.’” It is a phenomenal look at America’s education system. It also follows several kids from across the U.S. and gives viewers an inside look into their lives, neighborhoods, families and dreams for a better education.
“Oscar-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim undertakes an exhaustive review of public education, surveying “drop-out factories” and “academic sinkholes,” methodically dissecting the system and its seemingly intractable problems.”
In simpler words, this film explores several reasons why America’s education system is failing.
This film totally blew me away! It’s the perfect mix of suspense, hope, and information and the graphics are amazing.
Speaking of films, the Heartland Film Festival is under and it is always amazing! I got to preview a few of the films and let me tell you my friends, you are in for a real treat this year. Everything is so on point and soul-stirring!
While you are making plans to enjoy another wonderful weekend here in the Circle City (I hear the weather is going to be fabulous), please remember that the month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness month.
Become educated on the signs of domestic abuse and if you know someone who is affected by it, do your part to help them. I just read some horrid statistics on how many times domestic abuse leads to homicide, so we must do our part to save lives.
You can take action by participating in the YWCA’s Week without Violence, Oct. 18 – 24. During that week, they will be sponsoring “The Clothesline Project” and educational exhibit of decorated T-shirts telling a personal story of relationship abuse in the Greater Indianapolis area.
The exhibit begins at the Indiana State House on Oct. 18 – 19 and will travel to IUPUI on Oct. 20. Check it out.
