I spent my summer running. Every afternoon I would hit a 3.5-mile circuit around downtown. On Saturdays I had a 5-mile loop through the neighborhoods surrounding my house. It was a new lifestyle for me that culminated with running the Chicago Urbanathlon two weeks ago. While I loved the race and couldn’t have been prouder of my achievement I was also officially burned out. I needed a change of pace to my workouts.
Enter Climb Time Indy. Located on the north side of Indianapolis in a strip mall that is visible from I-69, Climb Time Indy is an indoor rock climbing experience that packs one hell of a punch. By admission, I’m not generally one who loves heights. The idea of clinging to an actual mountain face is not appealing to me in the slightest. However, the physical challenge and problem-solving involved with scaling these man-made cliffs is something I can get into.
The first thing you learn is that, while strength may help, it is technique that makes a successful climber. So, it is not an activity restricted to the Hans-and-Frans demographic. In fact, I witnessed an instructional class going on with a median age of about 12 and they were far from what anyone would consider as buff. My point is that anyone can try it. It’s fun, it makes you think and it’s an incredible workout.
Prices start at $10 a session (for as long as you can last) with $3 shoe rental and $5 harness rental (optional for those who want to climb higher). To get you started Visit Indy is offering up a coupon for FREE rental equipment with the purchase of a day pass.
Get to Climb Time and discover a fun activity that puts a new twist on the gym experience.
