My mom used to always say nothing good happens after dark. This resulted in insanely early curfews for me as a teenager, but that is all better addressed in a therapy session with a professional. Today I want to talk about something really cool that happens in the dark after dark: cosmic bowling!
Black lights. Lasers. Disco balls. Fog machines. Spinning beacons in all the colors of the rainbow. Great tunes/videos showing in your lane. And bowling balls and shoes that glow in the dark!
All of the local Royal Pin alleys (Expo in Beech Grove, Southern in Greenwood, Western on West Washington St. and Woodland at 96th and Keystone) offer cosmic bowling on Friday and Saturday nights. Times and prices vary, but I thought Expo’s deal was a pretty good value. $16 for three hours of unlimited games plus the groovy shoes thrown in. There was a nice mix of families and couples on dates with all demographics represented.
While I wish I could say all the trippy effects improved my game, that would be a lie. However they did help me forget how much my dad, a great bowler with a wall full of trophies to prove it, would frown at me barely breaking 100!
