If you live in the Indianapolis area at all and watch local tv, you know that there has been an amazing new concert venue under construction. Our friends to the north in Carmel make such catchy commercials about the Palladium that they stick in my head for days at end. And now is the time that the “Coming Soon” tagline can be dropped from those ads. This weekend, the Center for the Performing Arts celebrates its grand opening of the Palladium.
Saturday January 22nd and Sunday January 23d, the Palladium swings its doors wide open and invites you to see and hear all this concert hall has to offer. Guests don’t need tickets for these FREE events and are invited to come and go all weekend long, soaking in the beautiful sounds of numerous artists and witnessing the grace of a variety of dance performers. The ribbon cutting begins at 11 AM on Saturday the 22nd, followed by the first concert on the stage given by Carmel Brass. Get there early though because seats are limited! Free performances from other musicians and dancers will be given throughout Saturday until 6:30 PM (a full schedule is here). On Sunday, more great FREE concerts abound featuring performances by the Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre, Indiana University Jazz Band, and Purdue Glee Club. Not free but unbelievably awesome is the Grand Opening Gala Sunday night (5 PM – 2 AM) with a star studded evening of performances – can you say Michael Feinstein, Dionne Warwick, Chris Botti, Neil Sedaka?
I can think of nothing better to do on a snowy Indianapolis weekend than to enjoy the warmth of music, especially if its free!
Do you know other places you can hear music of any variety for free in Indianapolis this weekend?
