Get Your Art & History Fix At Once

As a parent, it can be hard sometimes for me to get my art fix and not bore the death out of my eight year old, so I was excited to find that there are a lot of cool events going on in Indy that our whole family can enjoy.

The first part of our road trip is taking us to The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, where our main destination is the new exhibit Costumes From Film and TV.  If you have read my previous blogs, you can probably tell by now that I love movies and my daughter does as well.  We are stoked to see some of the costumes that they have on display.  They have everything from Batman’s caped crusader suit to iCarly’s outfit from a recent episode. This exhibit just opened March 12th and is on display until May 8th. While you are here be sure to check out the other 10 galleries the museum has to offer.

After a long fun-filled day at the museum, we need to think about what to eat.  Our daughter really enjoys helping my wife and I in the kitchen and she is discovering more and more about the culinary arts.  I thought it would be fun for all of us to learn some new techniques that are not at all new, but very old.

Conner Prairie is offering an interactive dinner in Hearthside Suppers.  Here you will prepare, as well as eat a 19th century meal by candlelight. The menu changes annually and this year they are offering foods that would have been served at this time of year.  This year’s list includes popcorn, sliced cheese and water wafers, spiced cider, carrot soup, roast chicken, beef gobbets (beef stewed with herbs and vegetables), corn pudding, brandied peaches, pickled beets, biscuits with fresh churned butter and jam or apple butter and more.  Needless to say, I think we might be taking some home.

Whether you have kids or not, this is a guaranteed to be a great day.  If any of you check out the Costume exhibit, I’d love to hear about what your favorite item was.
