For my next few posts, I’m going to take you on a tour of all the fun, local things you can do and see on the far north side of Indianapolis. As a resident of the north side, this is an area of town where I spend quite a bit of time and there’s plenty to do.
I’ll start with the northeast side of town, where there’s plenty see and do as a couple. The anchor of the area is Castleton Square Mall, which has a wide range of stores for both men and women. There is also a number of stores surrounding the mall but the area can get a little congested during peak hours on the weekend so be cautious of that and plan ahead.
If you are into more physical and/or outdoor activities, you have a number of choices for public golf courses including Sahm Golf Course, The Fort Golf Course, and Shortees (an executive course). Also in the area is Climb Time Indy, an indoor rock climbing facility that boasts more than 4,000 holds on a wide range of walls that encompass 8,500-plus square feet of climbing surface. And, in a past blog I wrote about Fasttimes Indoor Karting and Pirates Cove Mini Golf that are always fun options to try.
For a touch of humor, there’s Morty’s Comedy Joint, and for live music there’s The Music Mill. If food and drink are your top priorities, options abound on the northeast side of Indy as well. For some of Indy’s best sandwiches, wraps and deep-fried pickles, try Scotty’s Brewhouse. A personal favorite of mine is Sakura Japanese where you have to try the Bob’s Roll, even if you don’t think rolls are really sushi. For the best burgers, go to 96th Street Burgers and for pizza head to Arnis.
For extensive, and I mean extensive, beer lists, look no further than the Ale Emporium or the Beer Sellar and if you’re looking to go really local, head to the Blue Crew Sports Grill. I would not, however, recommend wearing a Patriots jersey there, as this place is home to some hardcore Colts fans. Lastly, I’d recommend checking out Oakley’s Bistro. This place is amazing, has a changing menu and gives all other northside restaurants a run for their money. As this eatery deserves a post of its own, be on the look out for a more comprehensive description in the future.
No matter what your tastes or interests are, Indy’s north side surely has something to offer as you plan your perfect date in Indianapolis.
If you live near or have visited Indy’s north side, what were some of your favorite spots?
