Anyone that has ever been to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, knows how lucky our city is to have such a wonderful venue. Their archived collections include works by such masters as Rembrandt, Picasso, Dali, nearly anyone you can imagine. However, the IMA also does a great job of making art interactive, so no matter how many times you have been there, there is something new to do.
This weekend, they have several special events going on that should be a lot of fun.
First, is their Perennial Premiere. It is their annual salute to spring where they feature plants including small trees and shrubs, native plants, herbs, dwarf conifers and perennials. They encourage everyone from the most novice gardener to the expert green thumb to come check it out. They also have their own IMA horticulturists on hand to answer questions, and provide a guided garden walk with demonstrations.
Another special event is Bonsai: An Exhibition of Living Art. A bonsai tree artist is never done with his work as the tree is living and changing. It really is much more impressive to see in real life.
The third special event that I wanted to tell you about is something that they offer each Saturday and that is, Star Studio: Drop-In Art -Making. It is simply what you think, you come in and make some art that is inspired by current exhibitions. Artists are there to help teach and discuss what you may see around the IMA and it’s a great class that is intended for all age groups. So, if you’re not too confident in your abilities, just sit next to a small child so you can rub it in how much better your piece looks, just kidding, be nice.
Get out this weekend, get the garden ready and get some inspiration at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
