There are a lot of cool things about Mass Ave. but one of them is the ability for people to have a full evening of fun and many places to choose from.
Start your evening at Mesh on Mass Ave. Since opening it’s doors this restaurant has been the talk of the town. Unlike many modern restaurants that offer uber swanky food you can barely pronounce, Roddy Kirschenman, general manager, told me that Mesh was created to appeal to a broad spectrum of people and serves contemporary American comfort food with world influences here and there.
Bottom line, Mesh’s cuisine is innovative but it doesn’t really deviate from the familiar. The comfort chic atmosphere makes it easy to linger here all night, but remember, you’ve got more Mass Ave to see!
Before you go, try the pommes frites served with three different condiments; the crab cake; and the Millers Farms Amish Chicken.
Mesh also offers a array of items for lunch and I hear their Sunday Brunch is quite spectacular. Once Indianapolis gets some steady warm weather, I’m almost positive Mesh’s patio will be packed.
Moving on down the Avenue, to help your food digest, you might want to take in a show. Stop in the Chatterbox Jazz Club that’s been serving up jazz for over 25 years. Visit the place where legends have played and one that features the new faces of jazz. Come back to the Chatterbox on Sunday and hear the Jared Thompson Trio or the Rob Dixon Quartet on Monday. Truth is, you can hear great jazz any day of the week.
If jazz is not your thing, keep it moving to Theater on the Square . Now on stage is “The Kids Left. The Dog Died. Now What?” a comedy that tackles divorce, getting old, grandkids and dating. If you miss this show, which ends April 30, check out “Assorted Fruits and Vegetables” about life in the first all-gay nursing home in Indiana.
Before you head home, finish off your excursion down Mass Ave right with a night cap at either Front Page Bar and Grill that has tons of TVs for you to check out all the sports highlights; Ball and Biscuit , another recent establishment that become hot instantly; or Old Point Tavern, a no-frills joint with good drinks.
