Great Ways to Spend Mother’s Day in Indy

Lift your nose in the air and take a big whiff. Do you smell that? The smell of flowers, May flowers to be precise, and fresh cut grass can only mean one thing…Mother’s Day is right around the corner!

Do you know how you’re going to strike her fancy this year? No, you say? Well read on my friend because the last thing you want to do is disappoint that fine person you think of as “mom.”

My mom lives three hours north, so due to scheduling we celebrated a week early this year and I encourage copying our weekend. We started with a murder mystery dinner at Mystery Café. The show is highly entertaining and you can’t beat the true Italian feast from The Milano Inn.  The current show on the menu is “Blood, Sweat and Togas,” a spoof of “Gladiator.” Select audience members get to play a role and your job as an expert sleuth is to unravel the clues and figure out who killed Emperor Marcus O’Realius.  Buy your tickets now!

The next day I took her to brunch at Traders Point Creamery. There we enjoyed fresh from the farm omelets and waffles sized fit for a Queen. If brunch isn’t your thing, TPC is also having a special MOOther’s Day dinner complete with family style specials in addition to their regular menu. You can call 317.733.1700 to make your reservation!

My mom was quite thankful for her week-early Mother’s Day experience; however no two moms are alike so perhaps one of these itineraries will be better suited dressed for your Mother’s Day experience:

Hard-to-Buy-For Mom: Have a “serial gift returner” on your hands? Give your mom a shopping spree to buy her own present! Circle Centre Mall is offering a free spa gift set when you purchase a $100 or more American Express Simon gift card. Start with a fuel-charged lunch at Nordstrom Café and then let mom shop-til-she-drops (literally) on a massage table at the Evan Todd Spa and Salon at the Conrad to relieve the woes of all day walking and trying on clothes. You’ll be her favorite child in no time!

Artsy Mom: Arts-A-Poppin on Mass Ave is having a pre-Mother’s Day event on Saturday, May 7th. From 11 a.m. – 8p.m. you and your mom can browse unique pottery, jewelry, textiles and more. Next, drive up to the IMA and have lunch at Nourish Café for some contemporary, locally harvested fare and end your afternoon with a stroll through the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park. Nothing will make mom reminisce your childhood days of yore more than surprising her with a plucked flower or two.

Young Mom: Kids too young to make the plans? Dads, read on! It’s a family affair at The Children’s Museum. This year TCM is hosting a Mother’s Day Tea on May 7th from 9-11 a.m. or 2-4 p.m. Put on your best hat and keep those elbows off the table! End the day with a ride from Old World Gondoliers! All mothers will receive a free rose as they enjoy being serenaded down the canal. Moms deserve to be center-of-attention too!

Happy Mother’s Day!
