FREE Fall Break Fun

Don't Miss Steamboat Day at the Indiana History Center October 22nd, 10 AM - 5 PM!

I’m always on the prowl for FREE, fun {and especially family related} events in and around downtown Indianapolis.  Usually it’s pretty easy to find something to do on the cheap.  But I can quite honestly say that I have never seen so many free events going on in one week/weekend in quite some time.  So whether you’re coming into town for Fall Break or having a Staycation, I am positive, you’ll have a smashing time.  Here are a few of my favorite free activities for this weekend:

FFA Band, Chorus, and Talent Shows: Our favorite friends in the blue jackets are back!  Now only will they be in Indianapolis soaking up a whole lot of knowledge, they’ll also be giving our city the gift of song.  Head to the Indianapolis Artsgarden for a free show.  Check the calendar for dates and times.

Fall Break Creature Feature at Garfield Park:  Just because school is on a break, it doesn’t mean learning has to stop.  On October 20th, head to Garfield Park’s Conservatory and get wild . . . life.  Admission to the program is free with $1 park admission.

Let Freedom Ring: From Justice to Jazz at the Indiana Landmarks Building:  Friday October 21st at 7 PM {doors open at 6 PM}, explore a powerful form of music and its ability to influence and bring about change for the good.   The evening will commemorate Juneteenth as a national historic event and honor Indianapolis’ own talented jazz musicians who fought for civil rights.

Steamboat Family Day at the Indiana Historical Society:  This will be AWESOME.  Seriously, bring the family out to learn about Indiana’s history and enjoy not only FREE admission to the Indiana Experience {one of my ABSOLUTE favorite Indianapolis destinations} but all sorts of extra fabulous Steamboat fun!  This event celebrates the bicentennial voyage of the first steamboat to navigate the Ohio River.  Don your steamship captain’s hat and join the adventure on October 22nd from 10 AM – 5 PM.

I’m seriously just scratching the surface here, people.  Check out the Free Events area on Visit Indy to find many, many more things to do this weekend in Indianapolis!
