Top 5 FREE Indianapolis Spring Activities

Free Basket, an exhibit at the Indianapolis Museum of Art's 100 Acres

There’s no doubt that spring is already in the air.  And whether or not it’s a false start, there’s plenty to do this week {and every week} in Indianapolis to enjoy this beautiful weather.

1) Visit the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  It’s hard to believe that this prestigious institution always offers free admission.  Even if you’re not an art connoissuer, there’s plenty to do and see including the beautiful Virginia B. Fairbanks 100 Acres Art and Nature Park – 100 Acres of both natural and manmade beauty {doesn’t that just scream Spring?}.

Think this experience is for “adults only”?  You’re so wrong.  There are plenty of experiences for families with children of all ages to enjoy.  Check out the museum’s tips for family visits.

2) Check out the many memorials located all around downtown Indianapolis.  I spent some time last fall wandering the grounds around the Statehouse reading the plaques and  many statues.  It was fascinating learning more about our state’s history.  You can also visit the Indiana War Memorial or the Colonel Eli Lilly Civil War Museum both of which offer free admission.

3) A stroll in the sunshine on the Central Canal is always beautiful during the Spring!  If you have snack money budgeted, head to one of my favorite Indianapolis restaurants, the Creation Cafe located in the historic Buggs Temple.  Or bring your own snack and water bottle and simply find the shade of one of the many trees along the canal.

4) Run and play in the open green space or check out the beautiful sculptures in University Park.  Need to slip inside for a break?  Check out the lovely Central Library and maybe read a book or two.  Plus, the library frequently hosts a number of free events, too.  Personally, I love to sit in the egg shaped chairs to catch my breath.

5) Simply pack a picnic lunch and eat it on Monument Circle.  It’s a great place to people watch.  And again, you can soak in some of Indianapolis’ rich history.
