Do you relish culinary pleasures? Do you enjoy experiencing life through your senses? Namely, do you love a great cocktail in an upscale and social atmosphere? You just may be a libertine.
The Libertine, located just two blocks from Monument Circle, is a sensory experience in which all from, and visiting, Indy must partake. The Libertine focuses on craft distilleries, fresh juices and small, boutique productions. The atmosphere is one-of-a-kind in Indy. This narrow bar is full of richness, from its dark interior and plush lighting to its wall of unique and high-end liqueurs.
But beyond its unique and sumptuous ambience, the true character of this not-so-hidden treasure lies in its masterfully crafted cocktails.
Once again, as I seek out the the best local libations in Indy, I will sip the ways that I love The Libertine:
My favorite: Mint Julep. Usually too sweet for you? Think again.
2 oz Noah’s Mill Bourbon (a strong, spicy yet smooth love affair at 114 proof)
1/2 oz simple syrup
The trick: muddle mint into the simple syrup, add bourbon and garnish with more mint.
Simple and bold, just like me!
The owner’s favorite: Negroni
1 oz Bluecoat Gin
1 oz Campari
1 oz Perucchi Gran Reserva
Stir these soul mates together and pour over ice. Finish with an orange swath.
Most ordered: Colossal Expectations (this just makes sense, doesn’t it?)
2oz New Holland Rum
3/4 oz Averna Amaro
1/2 oz lime juice
1/4 muddled peach
1 egg white
Shaken and strained. Sounds a bit violent if you ask me, but the outcome is quite smooth.
What’s new at The Libertine? The food menu! Cocktails also change on a regular basis. You can’t expect a place such as The Libertine to remain satisfied with the same old, same old.
