Papa Roux’s has been an East side Indy staple for a number of years. And now, with a new location in Indy’s downtown City Market, Papa is serving great food to even more folks. There is nothing like the original though, so I am here to make the case for the East side location at 10th St. and Post Rd.
Many people dine out wishing they could try every item on the menu. At Papa’s, you can do just that. Sides are unlimited and portion-perfect, so you can try a little bit of everything. If ordering a legendary Papa Roux po boy sandwich, your must try sides include the mushroom etouffee, red beans and rice, extra slaw for your boy and last but certainly not least, the bread pudding. That’s right; the bread pudding is a side option that doubles as the perfect dessert. For the daring, the tomato creole and garlic stew are SPICY! I commend the brave souls who eat such things. Items like the mushroom etouffee, creole and stew are also available as main courses. Do you feel spoiled? Top all of this off with free iced and sweet tea. Papa treats you right! That is a guarantee.
Now to the main dish. You cannot go wrong with any po boy on the menu. As a lady, I always order a half-pork po boy (and I save $2 with my half-order!), which I prefer to top with extra slaw. There are many other po boy options including fried-to-order catfish ($10.50), bacon crumble ($8.50), roast chicken ($7.50) and more.
- Papa’s unlimited sides. Clockwise from the top-left: Bread pudding, Red beans and rice, Mushroom etouffee and slaw
- Half-size pork po boy
- Full-size catfish po boy: hand-breaded and pan fried!
- Delicious Vouxdoux mayo, slaw and roasted pork
Not to exclude Papa’s downtown location, I highly recommend heading there for lunch. I often prefer the mushroom etouffee, so cheesy and smooth, for lunch as it is a bit less messy than a full-on po boy. Did I mention you get a free gourmet bottle of root beer and side-of-choice with a lunch from Papa at the City Market? Pretty awesome.
