Santa Claus is Coming To . . . Indianapolis

I know what you’re thinking.

“Listen Queen of Free Lady, let us get through Thanksgiving and then Black Friday and then maybe we’ll be ready to hear about the jolly man in red.”

But let me just say, I’m doing this for your own good, ahead of time, because you’ll be so busy celebrating the merriment of this week that you’ll forget all about Christmas.  Then before you know it, you’ll be standing in a line that backs up all the way to Terre Haute just to see a 2nd rate Santa.  Here in Indianapolis, there are plenty of ways to see Jolly ‘Ole St. Nick and submit your Christmas list this holiday season.  Without further ado, here are my favorites:

Santa’s Mailbox: If you’re looking for a special way to mail your list to the North Pole this year, check out Santa’s Mailbox on Monument Circle {Nov. 14-Dec. 13}.  Santa will personally respond {He does like self-addressed stamped envelopes, though.  The economy has been rough on Father Christmas himself} and you have special direct express access on the east side of Monument Circle facing Market Street.

Santa Arrives at the Indiana State Museum: Santa always touches down in style at Celebration Crossing in the Indiana State Museum.  Mr. & Mrs. Claus will land by helicopter on Friday, November 23rd at noon sharp!  Enjoy a day filled with music from the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, a beautiful tree with ornaments representing Indiana’s 92 counties, and the Santa Claus Express.  Santa will remain at the State Museum through December 24th, for photos and fun.

Santa Speeds Into the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis:  To deliver all those gifts in time, Santa needs speed and here in Indianapolis that means one thing – a Dallara IndyCar driven by a Guinness World Record holder.  Also on Friday, November 23rd, the Children’s Museum also hosts Mr. & Mrs. Claus along with a host of great activities and fun {including smashing Black Friday deals & admission discounts}.  Details can be found here.  Santa will remain at the Children’s Museum through December 24.

Santa Flips the Switch on the Circle of Lights: While he might be making personal visits, you can see Santa light up Monument Circle’s “World Largest Christmas Tree” on Friday, November 23rd from 6-8 pm.  From coloring contests to favorite memories of this 50 year tradition in Indianapolis, plenty of details can be found here.

Check Out Santa’s Wild Side at the Indianapolis Zoo: From cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus to amazing light displays, there is so much to do at the Christmas at the Zoo celebration at the Indianapolis Zoo.  But don’t forget a visit to Chris Cringle himself in all of his holiday splendor!  This is an amazing experience for kids of all ages.  All of the specifics, including ways to save, can be found here.

Where’s your favorite Indianapolis Santa experience?  What’s a holiday tradition that’s not to be missed this year?
