Imagine what your favorite sports bar looks like. Large, flat-screen TV’s hanging on the walls, a variety of beer and liquor options, and food that you eat with your hands are a few things that come to mind for me. Now, take away all of the neon bar signs, brush the peanut shells off the floor and what do you see?
Severin Bar, located inside the Omni Hotel, has taken the rich history of our city and the warehouse district and tied it into a sports lounge concept. Walk in and you’ll notice the granite countertops, wood paneling on the walls and chalkboard menus that will make you feel like you stepped back in time, which is exactly what Severin wants.
The 1913 pre-prohibition feel is absorbed not only in the atmosphere of the sports lounge but also in the elegant cocktails, Indiana-brewed beer and the unique food menu. Try the strong-armed Whiskey Daisy, made with Harrison Indiana Bourbon, or the Tequila Maple Sour with chunks of apples that will taste more like apple juice than tequila (so watch out!). Traditional “bar foods” like flatbreads, burgers and brats are locally-sourced and offer so much more than just meat and buns. Of course, the highlight for me had to be the Bacon “Picks” – 6 pieces of Gunthrop Farm bacon, sauced up in the Harrison Bourbon-Maple, raw apple cider-honey vin, or rubbed with BBQ spices or black pepper-rosemary.
Flip through the slideshow to see a sample of cocktails and appetizers, along with a look at the “Urban Warehouse” design. Severin Bar is also on the Devour Downtown menu, but I hear they are booking up fast so call and get a reservation today! I know I’ll be back to try the Old School burger with lettuce, tomato, Local Folks Ketchup with Indiana cheese on a potato roll and the Shaved Root Beer Ham sandwich with Fair Oaks Farm cheddar!
