Growing up in Indy, I spent every St. Patrick’s Day cheering on my older sister, who at the time, was a dancer at Richens/Timm Academy of Irish Dance at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Indy.
There are many perks of being a younger sister of an Irish Dancer, but my favorite can be summed up in two words: “cultural excursion”. These were the words my mom always penned to sign me out of school, and it always meant I was off to explore whatever festival, fair or parade the Irish Dancers were performing at that day.
This month, we’re taking you on our very own cultural excursion. From the International Marketplace in the Lafayette Square area to an interview with Naplab creators Matt Hale & Josh Anderson, we’re bringing you along as we explore Diverse Indy.
Though some may think Indianapolis culture revolves around basketball, auto racing and tenderloins (all perfectly wonderful/delicious things, to be sure), there’s much more than meets the eye in Indy. For instance, did you know that Indy is home to six cultural districts, complete with exotic cuisine, local shopping and authentic performances? Or that Indy is now considered one of America’s most underrated destinations for gay and lesbian travelers? Now matter what your preference, there’s something for everyone – and something from everywhere – in Indy.
And, because I know everyone has their own favorite cultural destinations, we’re inviting to share your own adventures. Throughout February, snap, tag and share your photos & tweets with the hashtag, #LOVEindy.
To get a head start on this month’s festivities, we’re sending one lucky reader and three guests to one of the city’s premier cultural destinations, the Eiteljorg Museum. All you have to do is enter the Rafflecopter below!
