Love isn’t all about romantic dinners and a dozen roses. It cares not for store bought cards and trinkets. It isn’t filled with self-serving “I want a gift in return” purposes. Instead, true love is focused using everything you have – your power, your gifts, your knowledge – to place others in a better position.

The Indiana History Center in celebration of American Heart Month wants to show you the love.  On February 16, IHC will present IndyTalks: Love Your Heart. I can think of no better way to show someone you love them, especially your family than taking advantage of this special day. Not only are families invited to receive the gift of FREE admission {10 am to 5 pm}, but they will also be given the opportunity to show their love to one another through special activities.  You can receive both hands on education and participate in heart healthy activities hosted by IUPUI’s Schools of Physical Education and Tourism Management.  The JCC will be on hand to recommend healthy food and “lovely” nutrition tips. Kroger knows that the best way to anyone’s heart is through their stomach. They’ll be distributing yummy free samples, too!

While you’re at the Indiana History Center, be sure to check out You Are There 1939: Healing Bodies, Changing Minds. You’ll learn the story of heart specialist and African-American community leader, Dr. Harvey Middleton, Indianapolis native who pioneered the field of electrocardiographic technology. Step back into time in his office to discover what he loved about the heart.

Show your family how much you love them. Take good care of their physical and emotional heart this Valentine’s Day. You might learn a thing or two about how to take better care of  your own heart in the process.
