It’s an American classic. I’m not sure what it is about a delicious bun, a grilled burger, cheese, lettuce, and tomato that can send my taste buds into nirvana. So my dear friends, in no particular order, here are a few of the best places in Indy to grab a burger. If I left off your favorite stop, be sure to leave a comment (or two or three) with where you get your burger fix!
Scotty’s Brewhouse: With two Indianapolis locations, Scotty’s is a central Indiana original. Featuring both half and quarter pound burgers, you can choose from a variety of delectable burger stylings or build your own. This restaurant gives you the option of Indiana raised ground turkey, beef, and bison for only $0.50 extra. Unusual delicious picks on the menu include The Shewman Special (peanut butter, jalapeños, cheddar cheese, bacon) & the Turkey Sombrero Schamp-ion (turkey burger, pepper jack cheese, salsa, guacamole, garlic mayo). Check out the entire list here, but be warned, you WILL drool. And if you MUST have the dill chips if you’re a pickle lover. Also, Gluten Free eaters REJOICE, you can get your burger on a g-free bun.
Teddy’s: If you’re on the southside of Indy or in Carmel, be sure to head to Teddy’s Burger Joint for live music and unbelievable burgers. The menu is loaded with plenty of great options but we love the Teddy Bear Burger (onion ring, barbecue sauce, bacon and cheddar cheese) or Hawaiian (fried egg, smoked ham, grilled pineapple & provolone). I also highly recommend an extra side of garlic or cilantro mayo for your fries. Can’t choose just one burger? Get a mini burger sampler!
Punchburger: I just tried out this burger destination this summer and LOVED it! Again, there are a number of specialty burgers or you can choose to build your own. With options like pretzel bread, seven cheeses, great sauces, & more, why wouldn’t you? I have to admit that I’m a bit smitten with the Burnt Cheese Burger but the Thai burger is on my “to try next” list.
Bru Burger Bar: Mass Ave. is a foodie’s paradise & so Bru Burger Bar is naturally a foodie’s burger paradise. If you’re looking to veer off the beef path, check out their offerings for Lamb or Ahi Tuna burgers. Even reading the menu will cause flavors to explode in your mouth. Roma Burger with Arugula Pesto, Crispy Prosciutto, Roasted Red Peppers & Balsamic onion? Yes please! Garlic Three Cheeseburger with Swiss, American, Mozzarella, Roasted Garlic, & Truffle Aioli? Well alright, if you twist my arm.
Boogie Burger: With a motto like “We just love burgers,” you know you’re in good company at Boogie Burger. The menu is deep and wide (can you say garlic fries?) and you can indulge in shakes & ice cream too! Have a big appetite? Check out Cluck & Moo – a 1/3lb burger WITH a grilled or a breaded chicken breast topped with cheddar. Or test your tastebuds with the Disco Inferno - Grilled Serrano Chilies topped with Pepper Jack Cheese.
Bub’s Burgers & Ice Cream: Home of “The Big Ugly” One Pound Burger, thankfully Bub’s offers smaller sizes, too. You can even have Elk Burgers or hot dogs at Bub’s! Customize your burger to your tastes. And if you do choose to eat the Big Ugly and finish it, you’ll get your picture on the wall. And don’t be surprised if Bub himself doesn’t stop by to visit your table when you’re chowing down!
So what’s your favorite burger stop when you Visit Indy?
