When I was little, my brother and I used to always beg my parents to let us drink coffee after church. I didn’t necessarily like the flavor, but I think I just wanted to have what everyone else was having.
Once we were allowed to have some, we proceeded to saturate it with sugar and cream. It was pretty much liquid candy by the time we were done, but we were satisfied.
As the years went on I stopped drinking the sugary sludge I called coffee and finally, after college, I realized how good coffee really is. Lucky for me, there are a lot of good places to grab a great cup o’ joe with your significant other right here in Indianapolis.
One of my favorite cups of coffee comes from a breakfast place just south of Broad Ripple called Good Morning Mama’s. It’s located in an old filling station and retains much of the character of the original occupant. I don’t know where the beans come from – probably a local shop – but I do know it’s delicious. The food is also good, so you not only get a good cup of coffee, but a nice little breakfast while you’re at it.
Another favorite is Hubbard and Cravens. This is a local company that is flat out just doing it right. By custom-roasting the beans and focusing on solely whole-bean Arabica coffees, the result is nothing short of awesome.
The last place I’ll mention in this post is B Java. This is a unique recommendation for me because I’ve never actually been there. However, I have had Sun King Brewing’s Java Mac beer, made with beans from B Java. Not only was the beer really, really good, but any company that Sun King chooses to do business with is good in my book.
I know this list is just a tiny fraction of what the city has to offer, but that’s exactly what the comment section is for. Please feel free to share your own list of the best places for coffee in Indy.
