FREE Halloween Fun in Indianapolis

Did you know that Halloween is right behind Christmas in being the most costly holiday of the year?  And while the costumes and candy, haunted houses and hayrides are all great fun, you can find that your holiday looks a lot more red than orange and black if you’re not too careful.  Luckily, Indianapolis has plenty of free events for you and your family which will guard your checkbook from looking too ghastly come November 1.

Historic Irvington Halloween Festival (10/27-10/29):  While there are some paid events, the majority of this weekend’s events are free – from a costume parade to spooky stories, free concerts and more.  Check out the schedule for all of the deets.

Ghoulish Garfield (10/27-10/28):  From 6 – 9 PM, spooky games and yummy treats will be available at the Burrello Family Center of Garfield Park.  Your little goblins can make fall crafts at the Arts Center, and even share a scare on a tour of the Haunted Conservatory {less scary hour from 6 – 7 PM}.  Activities are frighteningly cheap ($1 admission to Conservatory and $3 for the hayride) & all other activities FREE.

El Dia de Los Muertos at the Indianapolis Arts Center (10/29):  Music, art, dance and more feature in this traditional celebration.  There are workshops available at an expense, too but there’s plenty of free fun on the schedule.

Safe Night Halloween at the Indiana State Fairgrounds (10/31): From 5-7 PM, take your trick-or-treaters indoors and enjoy plenty of non-spooky fun at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.  Bring your child aged 12 or under and expect plenty of candy and safe fun.

Safe Trick-or-Treat at Simon Malls (10/31):  Head to your nearest Simon location for special Trick-or-Treating in the mall.  Greenwood Park, Castleton Square, Washington Square, Clay Terrace (hee, hee Mall-o-Ween) and even the Edinburgh Premium Outlets all have events planned.  Check Simon’s website for specific times and locations.

The Indianapolis Marion County Public Libraries are offering a number of Halloween themed story timed and family fun events over the weekend.  Check out the calendar to learn when and where.

Are you aware of any other FREE or cheap Halloween events in the Indianapolis area this weekend?  Leave the dates, times, and locations in the comments!
