Eating Near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway: Best Foodie Finds

In Indianapolis, the month of May is defined by the checkered flag of the Indy 500. As the world’s largest single day sporting event, it draws in fans from all over the world, and it provides a fun opportunity to check out some foodie spots near the Speedway. So if you’re looking for a way to quench your hunger before or after a day of speeds exceeding 200 miles per hour, these are for you:

Long’s Bakerylongs
1453 N Tremont St
Indianapolis, IN 46222
Hours:
Mon-Sun 5:30 am – 8 pm

Nothing says good morning on the west side of Indy like Long’s Bakery. Located just off 16th Street and just east of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, this locally owned bakery is known for their delicious donuts. You are often greeted at the door by a lengthy – but completely worth it line.  Honestly, for Indy residents, this is THE place for a sweet breakfast treat. And often times, us Indy folks are indulging in Long’s donuts at all hours during the day. Long’s melt-in-your-mouth yeast donuts are so simple, yet one of the most amazing pastries in Indy.

Charlie Brown’s Pancake and Steak House

Indianapolis, IN 46224
(317) 243-2502
Hours:
Mon-Fri 6 am – 8 pm, Sat 6 am – 2 pm, Sun 7 am – 2 pm

As I said, May in Indy is all about racing and IndyCar – and the parties and festivities. Some nights require a special kind of breakfast the next day, though, and Charlie Brown’s Pancake and Steak is just the place to get it. With years and years of racing memorabilia that cover the walls of this local west side gem, Charlie Brown’s is an Americana diner that will fill you with eggs, bacon, sausage and over-sized pancakes. What better time than racing season to give this seasoned diner a try?

Mug ‘N’ Bunmugnbun

Indianapolis, IN 46224
(317) 244-5669
Hours:
Mon-Thu, Sat 10 am – 9 pm, Fri 10 am – 10 pm

Mug ‘N’ Bun is a west side staple in Indy. Pull up in your car, grab a menu from a car hop and put your lights on when you’re ready to order. It is that simple. What isn’t simple is deciding what to order. Choose between amazing tenderloins, hand-dipped onion rings, burgers and dogs with special coney sauce. Do you worry about keeping your car tidy?  Never fear, Mug ‘N’ Bun boasts a nice picnic area for out-of-your-car dining.

Dawson’s On Main

Indianapolis, IN 46224
(317) 247-7000
Hours:

A little “fancier” than the places mentioned above, Dawson’s On Main is a local spot that boasts great variety, from steak to seafood to salad to great appetizers and a full bar. Be sure to check it out!
